Early Painted Box
Pine box. 19th century. New York state. This early country box measures 13" across and 7 1/2" deep. Sides stand 5" high. Simply constructed using square nails, the box is made using 1/2" thick pine boards. Its dry painted surface of blue-green is original and covers all 4 sides. An iron eye screw was added at some point creating a wall box of sorts. With the exception of an age crack visible in the second picture, this piece remains in great original condition.
