Dress Making Sign

Dress Making Sign

Sign. c.1900. Pine board 20" long and 11 1/2" tall. This sign was most likely displayed on the home of an enterprising seamstress near the turn of the last century. The sign's text is created in a most unusual manner in that the entire board front to back was first painted mustard. The words "Dress Making" as well as the cartouche between are created by a black painted foreground leaving the mustard exposed thereby creating this charming sign's message.
