Jack Dempsey

Relief carving. Upstate New York. c.1920-1930. This tribute to the great American boxer Jack Dempsey is carved into a single early pine board standing almost 25" tall, 10" wide, and 1" deep. Details from hair to shoe laces are present. The painted surface on the figure has achieved a fine crackle. Note a splinter to the bottom left corner, which can be seen in the second image. The pine has oxidized indicating the loss occurred years ago.
