General Store Checkerboard
Game board. c.1930. Missouri or Kansas origin. 36" square overall. An otherwise simple checkerboard has become the focal point of this compelling work of art. A 36" square piece of early plywood has been sculpted on each side in such a way as to allow the players to get close to the 12" square painted game at the center. It is likely this piece spent its "playing days" atop a barrel situated on the porch at the local general store.
