19th Century Checkerboard

Country checkerboard. Pine and maple. 15 1/2" by 17 1/2". 3rd quarter 19th century. A single thick hand planed pine board is set in a 1" deep maple frame to create this simple country game board. A hand painted border with biscuit corners gives it a touch of sophistication. Found in New Hampshire, this piece is in absolute untouched surface and condition right down to the 16 square nails with which it was assembled. Each corner has been stamped with the maker's initials "H.C. LEE.".
