Country Game Board
Two-sided country game board. Pennsylvania. Third quarter 19th century. This pure and simple game board constructed of a single hand planed pine board measures 22 1/2" tall and 15" wide. A 1 1/8" molding is attached by tiny square finishing nails. A checkerboard in the best red and black surface is backed by a Mill game of black and mustard in an equally desirable surface. Note the use of a wide spline on the Mill game side. This uncommon feature is not only a sign of the skill used in the making of this game board, it has also prevented the single board from warping over time.
