Early Baseball Bagatelle Game Board
Nineteenth century bagatelle game board. New York state. A single hand planed pine board 46" long and 16 1/2" wide was used to create this game. The frame and trim pieces are applied by a combination of screws and square nails. Two wide splines were inserted in the back to prevent warping over time. Adding to the board's visul appeal is its deep blue background and salmon decorations. At some point in this game board's past an enterprising individual converted it from the intended game of bagatelle into the game of baseball. By adding strips of paper with various baseball plays written on them, players could now enjoy America's newest past time while playing the old and familiar game of bagatelle.
